Dr. Todd Schoreder, PhD & FACSM
Dr. Schroeder is a full time Associate Professor at USC and recognized as a Fellow of the American College of Sports Medicine.
Dr. Schroeder received his undergraduate degree in physiology at UC Davis, his Masters Degree in Sports Medicine at the University of the Pacific, and his PhD in Biokinesiology at the University of Southern California. After completing a 3 year postdoctoral fellowship in the USC Keck School of Medicine he accepted a full time faculty position in 2003 in the USC Division of Biokinesiology and Physical Therapy. Dr. Schroeder is the Director of the USC Clinical Exercise Research Center.
He has over 50 peer reviewed publications on the effects of exercise and hormones in health and disease. He is trained as an exercise physiologist and certified strength and conditioning specialist and has developed health and wellness programs for obese children, professional athletes, and older adults.
Dr. Farid Zarif, ND
Dr. Farid Zarif is an award winning fitness expert and globally noted weight loss and management professional.
Dr. Zarif is a graduate of the American College of Holistic Nutrition and holds a doctorate in Naturopathy, and a doctor of philosophy in human nutrition science. He is registered and certified by the Council on Naturopathic Registration and Accreditation. Dr. Zarif is a former instructor at the Western University School of Medicine. He is trained in Bariatric Medicine, which means he specializes in weight loss and obesity, the diagnosis and treatment of illnesses of overweight and obese adults, from their teen years through senior adult. The types of illnesses treated include heart disease, digestive disorders, diabetes, colitis, respiratory problems, arthritis, and hormonal conditions, sleeping disorders, infections, and diseases of the digestive system. Dr. Zarif has extensive experience in complimentary medicine, and has served as the director of nutrition and dietetics for the Beverly Hills Surgery Centers.
As a specialist, Dr. Zarif is most often seen in the role of primary care physician. He cares for patients for life, seeing them in the office and hospital. Dr. Jeffrey Hurless, DPM
Dr. Hurless brings a wealth of experience, education, and compassion to each patient’s foot and ankle care.
Dr. Hurless has been providing foot and ankle care for the Thousand Oaks and Westlake Village area since 1999. Dr. Hurless graduated with honors from the California College of Podiatric Medicine and then completed a three-year residency program specializing in podiatric medicine and foot and ankle surgery. Dr. Hurless is board certified and a diplomat in foot surgery by the American Board of Podiatric Surgery and is also a fellow of the American College of Foot and Ankle Surgery. Dr. Hurless has a beautiful seven-exam room office located on the Thousand Oaks Surgical Hospital (TOSH) campus in Thousand Oaks, CA. Dr. Hurless is an active staff member at Los Robles Hospital, TOSH and Specialty Surgical Center in Westlake Village. Dr. Hurless serves as a member of the Joint Operations Committee and Quality Control Committee for Thousand Oaks Surgical Hospital.
Due to Dr. Hurless’s love of exercise and sports, his practice has evolved into a sports medicine focused practice. He treats all levels of athletes from professional to peewee. Dr. Hurless also treats many runners from the weekend jogger to marathoners and Iron Man participants. Dr. Hurless has kept many athletes and runners going with his custom foot orthotics. Dr. Hurless loves helping his patients achieve their goals with the help of his orthotics. Dr. Hurless has been dispensing his prescription orthotics for 15 years and has kept thousands of feet out of the operating room. Dr. Hurless makes orthotics taking into consideration the patients body weight, shoe type, activity level, gait and medical diagnosis. Of course, Dr. Hurless also treats all foot and ankle trauma, foot fractures, broken toes, ankle sprains, infections, ingrown toenails, warts, moles, skin cancer of the foot, diabetes, bunions, hammertoes and arthritis.
Dr. Heather Gibson, PhD
Dr. Heather Gibson is one of a few licensed clinical psychologists that have specific training and experience in psychological and behavioral treatment of obesity and eating disorders.
She has devoted her entire career to this specialization and has worked in a variety of settings including private practice, inpatient hospitalization, research, and residential settings. Dr. Gibson received her M.A. and Ph.D. from Texas Tech University, and completed her internship and training at UCLA’s Neuropsychiatric Institute. Dr. Gibson has published empirical research studies and book chapters in the field of eating disorders, and is truly passionate about the work she does.
Dr. Gibson utilizes proven, empirically-validated treatments to guide her work and the patient’s weight management. Treatment starts with changes in thinking about habits, triggers, and food, as well as a host of behavioral changes that are necessary for maintenance of a healthful lifestyle. The changes she focuses on have been proven to be effective for long-term weight loss and maintenance, and are tailored to the particular background and circumstances of the individual patient. She is well-versed in coordination of care with physicians, R.D.’s, personal trainers, and other team members. Last, but not least, Dr. Gibson is quickly able to connect with patients and create an atmosphere of trusting collaboration.
